Play at the Lakeview Museum One More Time Before it Closes on Sept 1: K’Nex, Discovery Center, Ducks, Art Exhibits, and more!

The Lakeview Museum will officially close on September 1.  The staff will be getting ready to open the new doors of the Peoria River Front Museum in October.  This will be your last chance to play and learn at the Lakeview Museum.  

From my kids and talking to other kids at Lakeview lately, the K’Nex exhibit is the best exhibit that Lakeview has ever had.  We’ve studied the K’Nex roller coaster, ferris wheel, and thrill rides to see how different pieces are used and connected.  My kids spend at least 2 hours building contraptions in the hands-on area.  The younger kids may need help building things, but it is a great way to share time to imagine and create with them.

New at the Peoria Zoo: New Tigers, New Entrance, New Australia, New Entertainment

There are a lot of good changes happening at the Peoria Zoo.  If you haven’t heard, the most exciting announcement is the Zoo welcoming four baby Amur tigers.  The cubs and mother “Kyra” will stay in the house until the cubs are old enough to safely navigate the outdoor exhibit and the mother is calm having them on exhibit.

Opening of Apple Orchards

Apple orchards are opening soon, and will continue to operate into late fall. You’ll get to select freshly picked apples, and have fun with the family. Tanners Orchard opens Monday, July 23. It is located in Speer, IL. You’ll find the orchard, the Back 40 Fun Acres, farm animals, corn maze, market, bakery, and so much more. Christ Orchard, located in Elmwood, opens August 1.

Backyard Talent Show for St. Jude Children's Hospital on July 14

Press Release from BYTS for St. Jude

On July 14, 2012 the 5th Annual Kids Helping Kids Backyard Talent Show for St. Jude (BYTS) will be held in Morton, Illinois, and with the support of the Morton Tourism Association and Morton Park District, the show will once again be held on the Idlewood Park stage.  Concessions and face‐painting begin at 5:00 PM and the show will start promptly at 6:00 PM.  Please mark your calendar, pack your lawn‐chairs, and attend this fun, entertaining, and family‐friendly event! There is no admission, but donations are greatly appreciated.  This year's show features 25 acts and over 45 participating children, from all over Central Illinois, in what has become a much loved, annual event benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
